7:38 AM Stern of a ship barely comes into view upstream. Going downriver backwards? Odd... Loud propeller noises, and the ship halts, then moves upstream again. The stern was red. Perhaps the dredger that was working upstream. Clearly a u-turn though.

Sounded 5 warning blasts, then did it again as it was passing by me. I raced to the waters edge to try to see around the bend in the river, but I couldn't figure out who or what the ship was trying to warn. Maybe the dredger was upstream? A pleasure craft in the way?
12:06 PM Terrapin Island (New York, NY) / u-turn
It just comes into view before flipping a u-turn and heads the other direction. The Thames River, a small red motorboat (which I've seen go by before - apparently it's the crew boat for the Terrapin Island) is hovering around it.
